DEDICATED TO NATURE

PASSIONATE ABOUT SOUND

Martyn Stewart has always listened closely to the world around him. Each soundscape shows how beautiful our planet actually is and opens the door to another world that we hardly ever see.

"We’re a visual culture and have, until very recently, studied the wild natural primarily through what we see,” says Bernie Krause, a soundscape ecologist and friend of Stewart’s, “but a much fuller understanding can be learned from what we hear.”

To build his vast, personal library of sounds, Stewart has trekked to more than 40 countries over 55 years.

We are proud to have partnered with Platoon to create a series of collections and albums that celebrate our natural world and the ART OF LISTENING: aiming to highlighting the beauty, diversity, fragility and healing powers of our planet through the medium of sound.

THE LISTENING PLANET COLLECTION

We are proud to have released over 50 albums of pure nature soundscapes - taking you from the Okavanga Delta to the Daintree National Forest, from Belize to Borneo to the Sierra Nevadas to the Arctic Wildlife Refuge. From his first recording of a Eurasian blackbird as a boy, Martyn's motivation has been singular: to use sound as a megaphone for vulnerable places and animals. By releasing a free collection of his most prized recordings to the public, he is optimistic those listening will feel closer to foreign species and environments, and feel motivated to act. “I hope they have the connection between sound and the animal emitting the sound.” “I think we have to become the voice of the voiceless. If we can get these beautiful sound recordings out and let people in the world listen to them, maybe we can start protecting what we've got left.”

THE LISTENING PLANET x SOUNDS RIGHT

On April 18th 2024, The Museum for the United Nations - UN Live announced the launch of Sounds Right - a new global music initiative that enables nature to generate conservation funding from her own sounds. Launched in the lead up to Earth Day, the initiative aims to spark a global conversation about the value of nature and support millions of music fans to take meaningful action to protect our planet. The Listening Planet are founding partners and released a series of ecosystem soundscapes in support.

ROSEY CHAN

Rosey is a multimedia artist based in London. Her creative output combines a wide range of practices, from music and design to dance, fashion and architecture. Rosey’s solo concerts incorporate cinematic visuals and cutting edge audio technologies. Her music is an amalgamation of her own compositions, musical improvisations and selected classical repertoire along with electronic and genre-bending sonic influences. Whilst listening to Rosey play the piano one is immediately taken to a state of peace. Rosey has a desire to bring peace of mind to this hectic world through her music With a travelling schedule that has covered the globe, it was inevitable that Rosey felt a need to give back to the planet through her music and her projects. Martyn Stewart from thelisteningplanet.com who has been on a lifelong mission to record the sounds of our planet invited Rosey to compose music that reflects the sounds of the past with hope for the future of our planet "My life is a mix of places and people all adding immense value to my life and in some small way I hope those that work with me are better for the experience too” “I’ve spent a lot of time listening to the planet, to the sounds from the past and the present, the animals, the oceans, the birds, the mountains and the plants and I feel compelled to play what I feel in my soul to help heal the planet”
